Bluetooth-Controlled Trident Row Unit Turns Heads at Canada’s Farm Progress Show
Not only does the CX-6 Trident row unit have some flashy colours, but the product also made a real splash at Canada’s Farm Progress Show and was awarded the people’s choice award for innovation. The word “innovation” gets thrown around too often, it seems, but the row unit, developed by B.C.-based Clean Seed Capital Group, could be the very definition of the word.
The CX-6 unit isn’t just unique in its seed and fertilizer placement or variability, though its capacity for precise placement and varied rate via each unit is impressive, but even the way it works is unique. Unlike other planters or row units, the Trident uses Bluetooth technology to communicate with mapping and commands from the tractor, which translates to zero wiring harness.
Colin Rosengren, who farms at Midale, Sask., is also a rep for Clean Seed Agricultural Technologies and has been involved in the development of the row unit since the beginning. In this video, Rosengren walks us through the capabilities of the unit. The first field-scale launch of the product is likely for 2014.
